Read this text to learn more about celebrations and custom in three different countries.
Celebrations and traditions show the history and values of a country. Japan, Morocco, and Canada each have special ways of celebrating.
In Japan, traditional festivals are often connected to nature and religion. For example, Hanami is the spring custom of enjoying cherry blossoms. Families and friends gather in parks to eat, drink, and admire the flowers. Another important tradition is Obon, a Buddhist festival to honor ancestors. People visit graves, light lanterns, and dance in the streets. These traditions show the Japanese respect for beauty, family, and the past.
In Morocco, celebrations are closely linked to Islam. One of the biggest holidays is Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan. Families share special meals, give food to the poor, and wear new clothes. Another lively tradition is weddings, which can last several days with music, dancing, and colorful clothing. Moroccan celebrations are warm, social, and filled with hospitality.
Canada is a multicultural country, so traditions come from many cultures. National holidays like Canada Day are celebrated with fireworks, concerts, and outdoor activities. Indigenous peoples have their own traditions, such as powwows, with dancing, drumming, and storytelling. Because Canada is diverse, people also celebrate festivals from around the world, including Diwali, Chinese New Year, and St. Patrick’s Day.
Although Japan, Morocco, and Canada have very different traditions, all three countries use celebrations to bring people together, honour history or religion, and create joy. Celebrations everywhere show the importance of family, community, and identity.
Speak or write about an important tradition that you enjoy. Give as much detail as possible.
