There is a lot of grammar in this capsule.
There are plenty of activities for you to practice.
Do you see the difference in the expressions “there is/there are“?
We use “there is” to indicate a singular or non-count noun.
There is a student in the back of the room.
“There are” is used to indicate plural nouns.
There are three students in the room.
Present progressive verb tense review
We use the present progressive to describe an action that is happening now or in the near future.
I am explaining the present progressive.
It is snowing today.
They are helping their teacher with the dictionaries.
We use:
“be” in the present tense + verbING
We use it with action verbs. If the action happens in your head or your heart, we generally do not use a progressive tense.
Ex:
I love my cat. (heart)
I am loving my cat (ERROR – not an action)
He never understands how to conjugate verbs. (head)
He is never understanding how to conjugate verbs. (ERROR – not an action)
There are some exceptions to this rule.

Today, Geraldo and Abigaël are meeting for the first time. Geraldo is Abi’s tutor for her French class. Abi thinks that she does not have the ability to pass her class without help because French is not her first language.
Geraldo is waiting for Abi in the cafeteria. He is looking around for her because he doesn’t know what she looks like except that she is tall. Suddenly, he sees a tall woman walking towards him. She smiles at him.
“Hello, are you Geraldo?” she asks. “Yes, I am,” he says. “It’s nice to meet you.” says Abi.
“What are you doing in French class?” he asks. “We are working on sentence structure.” says Abi.
At the end of the lesson, Abi says “Thank you, Geraldo. I like the way you explain.” Geraldo answers, “Thanks, Abi. Have a great day!”
